Governor Okpevbolo Warns Peter Obi Against Visiting Edo Without Clearance

by admin

Tension is rising in Edo State following a controversial warning issued by Governor Monday Okpevbolo to former presidential candidate Peter Obi. The governor declared that Obi must seek his approval before entering the state, citing concerns over security.

According to Okpevbolo, Obi’s previous visit to Edo allegedly triggered unrest. He claimed that during that visit, Obi donated ₦15 million, which, he alleges, led to a crisis in Benin that resulted in the deaths of three people. He criticized Obi for contradicting his public stance of having “no money” during the campaign.

“There is a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo without informing me. His security will not be guaranteed. Whatever happens to him, he will bear the consequences,” the governor warned.

The statement has stirred strong reactions, with many questioning its legality and potential implications for freedom of movement. Legal analysts have pointed out that every Nigerian has the right to travel freely within the country without seeking permission from state authorities.

Peter Obi has not yet responded to the warning. However, the development has sparked wide public debate and raised concerns over growing political hostility and its possible effects on peace and governance in the region.
