Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has revealed that he can track the movements of armed bandits in real time but is unable to take action because federal security forces only respond to directives from Abuja. He recounted an incident in Shinkafi where troops failed to respond to an attack due to lack of clearance from the federal capital.

Lawal stated that if given full control over security in Zamfara, he could eliminate banditry within two months. Despite his government providing patrol vehicles, community guards, and intelligence support, he said constitutional restrictions prevent him from directly deploying forces.

The governor became emotional discussing the impact on citizens and urged for urgent reforms, including the creation of state police and decentralization of Nigeria’s security system. He also warned that politicizing insecurity is worsening the crisis.
