Owerri West LG, Other Imo LGAs Plagued By Bad Roads

Without mincing words, many roads in Owerri West Local Government Area (LGA) and across other LGAs in Imo State remain in deplorable condition.

While the Executive Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has made commendable strides in infrastructural development under his Shared Prosperity Administration, it is essential that more deliberate efforts be directed toward rehabilitating rural roads across the state.

A striking example is the lack of a proper access route from Owerri town to Umuguma, the headquarters of Owerri West LGA.

The Owerri-World Bank-Umuguma Road, for instance, is in a particularly appalling state, despite being only a five-minute drive from Government House, Owerri.

Millions of residents of the state capital who live and conduct their daily activities along this corridor endure significant hardship as a result.

The Imo State Government is indeed working, but the urgency of rehabilitating and constructing major roads linking rural communities cannot be overstated.

Upgrading these critical arteries across the state’s 27 LGAs would not only ease transportation but also stimulate economic growth and strengthen the transport sector.

The media, as society’s watchdog, therefore calls on the Executive Governor to prioritize and accelerate the rehabilitation of these vital rural road networks to foster sustainable development and improve the quality of life for Imo citizens.
