Former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Lucky Irabor Musa (rtd.) has urged the Federal Government to establish a comprehensive and unified national database as a critical tool for addressing Nigeria’s persistent security challenges. He emphasized that modern security systems rely heavily on accurate and accessible data, and Nigeria must not be left behind in adopting such technology-driven solutions.

Speaking at a public forum on national security reforms, Musa noted that insecurity has become increasingly complex, requiring more efficient intelligence gathering and coordinated responses. According to him, a central database that integrates citizens’ biometrics, identities, and movement records would significantly enhance the ability of security agencies to track criminals, prevent attacks, and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

He further explained that fragmented data systems across government agencies weaken the country’s security architecture. A unified platform, he said, would not only support law enforcement operations but also improve national planning, border control, and the fight against cybercrime.

Musa called on policymakers, security institutions, and technology experts to collaborate in designing a system that upholds national security while protecting citizens’ privacy. He stressed that with the right political will and investment, Nigeria could build a robust database similar to those used in advanced nations to deter crime and maintain internal stability.
