The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed 2,202 personnel across strategic locations in Abuja and its environs in preparation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and hassle-free festive season for residents and visitors.
The announcement was made by FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Miller Dantawaye, who emphasized that the deployment is a proactive measure to prevent crime and safeguard public spaces during the yuletide period.
Personnel have been stationed at places of worship, recreational centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public spaces throughout the territory. Security operations will include increased visibility patrols, intelligence-led monitoring, rapid response squads, and foot and vehicular patrols. Additionally, explosive ordnance disposal teams will conduct routine sweeps at public gathering points to ensure safety.
The FCT Police also reminded residents of the ban on fireworks, firecrackers, and other explosive devices within the territory. Anyone found in violation of this regulation may face arrest and prosecution. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency hotlines.
This extensive deployment underscores the FCT Police Command’s commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly festive season in Abuja.
