The United States has reiterated its commitment to working with Nigeria to ensure that all citizens can live safely and practise their faith without fear of violence or persecution. This assurance was given by U.S. Congressman Riley Moore, who stressed that freedom of religion remains a core democratic value and a fundamental human right.
Moore expressed concern over the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly attacks linked to religious intolerance and extremist violence. He noted that the situation has affected communities across different regions and has threatened peaceful coexistence among people of diverse religious beliefs.
According to the U.S. lawmaker, Washington is strengthening its partnership with Nigeria through increased security cooperation and diplomatic engagement. He explained that joint initiatives between both countries are aimed at addressing insecurity, protecting civilians, and promoting stability nationwide.
Moore stated that the United States is committed to supporting efforts that guarantee equal protection for all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation. He emphasised that Christians, Muslims, and followers of other faiths must be able to worship freely without intimidation or fear of attacks.
He also called on Nigerian authorities to sustain efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that accountability and effective security measures are essential to restoring public confidence. Moore added that continued collaboration with international partners would play a vital role in achieving lasting peace.
