Osborne Umahi, the first son of Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

Umahi secured his party’s ticket during the APC chairmanship primary election conducted on Monday, following his purchase of the party’s nomination form reportedly pegged at ₦30 million. His victory positions him as the APC flag bearer ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Party sources described the primary exercise as orderly and in line with APC electoral guidelines, noting that delegates participated in the process without major incidents. Supporters of Osborne Umahi have expressed optimism that his candidacy will bring renewed energy to grassroots governance in Ohaozara LGA.
The outcome of the primary has, however, generated mixed reactions across political and public spaces.

While some observers view his emergence as a testament to political continuity and party confidence, others have raised concerns about the high cost of nomination forms, arguing that such fees could limit participation and deepen elite dominance in local politics.

Osborne Umahi is expected to formally commence consultations and outline his development agenda in the coming days, with attention on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and improved service delivery at the local government level.
