The Presidency has explained the circumstances surrounding the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police (IGP), stating that his decision was voluntary and based on personal considerations.
According to an official statement released by the Presidency, Egbetokun submitted a resignation letter citing pressing family matters that require his full and undivided attention. The statement emphasized that his decision was made in good faith and in the interest of both his family and the Nigeria Police Force.
President Bola Tinubu reportedly accepted the resignation and expressed appreciation for Egbetokun’s service and contributions to national security during his tenure.
The Presidency further noted that Egbetokun demonstrated commitment and professionalism while leading the Nigeria Police Force. During his time in office, he oversaw key security operations and reforms aimed at strengthening law enforcement and improving public safety across the country.
While the official explanation centers on family considerations, reports from sources within the Presidential Villa suggest that discussions between the President and the former IGP preceded the announcement.
