April 20, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owerri Zone expressed support for the Imo Elders Council’s decision to back the zoning of the state governorship to Owerri Zone after the tenure of Governor Hope Uzodimma, in line with the principles of equity and fairness.
The position was made during the Owerri Zonal Leadership Meeting, where party stakeholders gathered to review political developments, discuss internal affairs, and consider the future direction of the party in Imo State. The meeting served as a platform for open dialogue among political actors across the zone, focusing on unity, coordination, and strategic positioning ahead of future political transitions.
The Owerri Zonal Chairman, Hon. Chief Justus Ogu, KSM, described the resolution as a move that promotes justice, balance, and inclusiveness within the political structure of the state. He noted that the decision reflects careful consideration of fairness among the three senatorial zones and helps to reduce political tension while strengthening mutual understanding.
He also acknowledged leaders from other zones who have shown support for the position of the Elders Council, stating that such cooperation has contributed to improved relationships and a more stable political environment across Imo State.
Hon. Ogu called on APC members in Owerri Zone to remain united and focused, urging them to avoid division and personal rivalry. He stressed that collective interest should remain the priority as the zone prepares for future political opportunities. According to him, unity, discipline, and loyalty to the party structure are key factors that will guide the zone’s political progress.
He further stated that Owerri Zone is prepared to work with any candidate that emerges through a consultative process involving Governor Hope Uzodimma and relevant party stakeholders. He added that the zone remains committed to maintaining peace, strengthening party structures, and supporting decisions that promote stability.
The meeting attracted a wide range of political stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Chinyere Ekomaru, PhD, members of the National and State Assemblies, party executives, local government representatives, and ward leaders across Owerri Zone.
Speakers at the gathering called for continued cooperation among party members and emphasized the importance of maintaining internal harmony. They noted that sustained unity would help strengthen the party’s position and ensure effective coordination across all levels of leadership in Owerri Zone and Imo State.
