Political activities in Imo State received renewed attention as Chief Wisdom Ekewuba (Odenigbo), a well-known political figure from Avu in Owerri West Local Government Area, formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a move that has continued to generate wide reactions across the state’s political landscape.

The defection ceremony, held in Owerri, brought together party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters as the PDP National Working Committee officially received Chief Ekewuba and other political actors who joined the party.

Representing the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Deputy National Chairman, Yusufu Akirikwen, led the reception and welcomed the new entrants into the party structure. He noted that their decision to join the PDP reflects growing trust in the party’s direction and its ongoing efforts to reposition itself for effective political engagement and service delivery.

According to him, the arrival of individuals like Chief Ekewuba adds strength and experience to the party’s structure, especially at a time when political engagement at the grassroots level is increasingly crucial.

Chief Ekewuba, who hails from Avu in Owerri West LGA, is widely recognized within his community for his philanthropic contributions and consistent involvement in local development efforts. Over the years, he has been actively engaged in initiatives aimed at supporting the less privileged, empowering youths, and contributing to community advancement.

He is also an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Owerri Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, a position he says aligns with his long-standing desire to serve the people at a higher legislative level.

Speaking shortly after his defection, Ekewuba explained that his decision to join the PDP was driven by a renewed commitment to effective representation and a desire to operate within a political structure that aligns with his vision for inclusive development.

He emphasized that his political ambition is rooted in service to the people, particularly in addressing the developmental needs of Owerri West and the wider federal constituency.

Ekewuba assured his supporters that his aspiration is focused on practical and people-oriented leadership, promising to prioritize issues such as infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education support, job creation opportunities, and improved welfare systems for constituents.

He stated that if given the mandate, he would ensure that the voice of Owerri Federal Constituency is strongly represented at the National Assembly, with clear attention to projects and policies that directly impact the lives of the people.

“I am committed to serving my people with sincerity and dedication. My goal is to ensure that Owerri Federal Constituency experiences meaningful progress through effective representation and purposeful leadership,” he said.

The development has continued to spark conversations among political observers in Imo State, with many noting that Ekewuba’s entry into the PDP could influence emerging political alignments ahead of future elections, especially within Owerri Federal Constituency.

As political activities gradually intensify, the PDP is expected to further consolidate its grassroots structure, leveraging new entrants like Chief Ekewuba to strengthen its presence and engagement across communities in Owerri West and beyond.
