Ahead of the 2027 general elections Engr Lawson Onyekaa a US based engineer and indigene of Egbuoma in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State has officially declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat
Onyekaa is seeking to represent the people of Ohaji Egbema Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC having successfully obtained the party nomination and expression of interest forms
Speaking shortly after picking up the forms in Owerri the state capital Onyekaa expressed strong confidence in his leadership capacity and readiness to deliver effective and people oriented representation if given the mandate
He explained that his decision to join the race was informed by his deep understanding of the socio economic and infrastructural challenges confronting the constituency stressing that he is determined to bring his experience and expertise to bear in addressing them through proactive legislative engagement
According to him the time has come for a new style of leadership anchored on service accountability and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people He emphasized that his aspiration is not driven by personal ambition but by a sincere desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of his constituency
The era of self serving leadership is over I am fully prepared to serve the people with dedication and integrity and to make them proud through effective representation he stated
Onyekaa further assured that if elected he would prioritize the sponsorship of people oriented bills support policies that promote economic growth and social welfare and move motions that will attract federal presence and development projects to the constituency
He also highlighted the importance of inclusive governance promising to carry all segments of the constituency along irrespective of political ethnic or social differences
He added that improving key sectors such as infrastructure education healthcare and youth empowerment remains central to his agenda noting that sustainable development can only be achieved through deliberate and people focused policies
He pledged to work closely with stakeholders traditional institutions youth groups and women organizations to ensure that the voices of the people are adequately represented in the legislative process
Onyekaa noted that his international exposure as a US based professional has equipped him with valuable insights and innovative ideas that he intends to deploy in attracting investment opportunities and developmental projects to the constituency
He said transparency and accountability would remain central to his representation assuring constituents that he would maintain open communication and regularly engage with them to assess their needs and expectations
While appealing for the support of constituents across Ohaji Egbema Oguta and Oru West Onyekaa urged members of the APC at all levels ward local government and state to rally behind his vision as the party prepares for its primary elections
He also called on young people in the constituency to actively participate in the political process saying their involvement is crucial to building a better and more inclusive future
Onyekaa stated that his ambition is rooted in the principles of service inclusiveness and sustainable development adding that he remains determined to build a stronger more prosperous and united constituency through responsive and effective representation at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly
