The political atmosphere in Imo State is gathering momentum as Queen Chinyere Opurum, a frontline aspirant for the Nkwere/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared her readiness for the party’s primary election scheduled for May 16, 2026.
Speaking shortly after the APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Owerri, Queen Opurum applauded the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, for confirming that the party would adopt direct primaries in selecting its candidates, in line with the directive of the APC National Working Committee (NWC).
She described the Governor’s position as a major boost for internal democracy within the party and a clear indication that every aspirant would be given equal opportunity to prove their popularity and acceptance among party members.
According to Queen Opurum, Governor Uzodinma assured party leaders and aspirants that the exercise would be transparent, peaceful, and credible, stressing that all contestants would compete on a level playing field without favoritism or manipulation.
“The Governor has demonstrated leadership and fairness by supporting a process that allows the people to decide. This is a victory for democracy and for the APC family in Imo State,” she stated during an interview with journalists in Owerri.
Queen Opurum expressed strong confidence in her growing support base across the four local government areas that make up the federal constituency, noting that her years of humanitarian service, grassroots empowerment, and community development have prepared her for effective representation.
She explained that her aspiration is rooted in service to humanity and the desire to create lasting opportunities for youths, women, and vulnerable members of society.
“I am fully prepared for this primary election, and I believe in the will of the people. I trust the process and remain optimistic about victory. However, no matter the outcome, I will continue to support the APC and stand with whoever emerges as the party’s candidate for the progress of our constituency,” she added.
Queen Opurum also commended the APC National Working Committee for insisting on direct primaries, describing the decision as courageous, democratic, and in the best interest of party members.
She assured constituents that if given the mandate, her representation would focus on youth empowerment, job creation, women inclusion, education support, poverty alleviation, and community development initiatives aimed at improving lives across Nkwere, Isu, Nwangele, and Njaba.
The aspirant further emphasized that her political journey has always been centered on lifting the downtrodden and giving hope to ordinary people through practical support and empowerment programs that have already impacted many families within the constituency.
Political observers believe Queen Chinyere Opurum’s people-oriented approach, grassroots connection, and commitment to humanitarian service continue to earn her admiration and growing support among party faithful, youths, women groups, and community stakeholders.
As the APC primary election draws closer, anticipation continues to rise across the constituency, with many supporters expressing optimism that Queen Opurum’s message of unity, empowerment, and purposeful leadership will resonate strongly at the polls.
