The Lagos State Government has commenced an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing a personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) receiving a bribe while carrying out official duties.

The incident, which has attracted widespread attention on social media, prompted swift action from the state authorities. The officer at the center of the allegation has been issued a formal query and directed to appear before the agency’s Personnel Management Board for a comprehensive investigation.

According to the government, the investigation is aimed at establishing the authenticity of the video and determining whether the officer violated the rules and ethical standards guiding public service in Lagos State.

Officials stated that the Personnel Management Board will review all available evidence, including the viral footage and any statements from witnesses, before making recommendations on the appropriate course of action.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, bribery, and other forms of misconduct in the public service. It emphasized that all government employees are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability while discharging their responsibilities.

Authorities stressed that any officer found culpable after the investigation would face disciplinary measures in accordance with the Lagos State Public Service Rules and other applicable regulations. They also noted that no employee would be shielded from accountability, regardless of rank or position.

The government, however, maintained that the officer is entitled to a fair hearing and due process throughout the investigation, adding that disciplinary decisions would be based solely on the outcome of the Personnel Management Board’s findings.

The development underscores the state’s continued efforts to strengthen public confidence in its institutions and ensure that agencies responsible for enforcing environmental and sanitation laws operate with transparency and professionalism.

Residents were encouraged to continue reporting cases of misconduct involving public officials through the appropriate government channels. The government assured the public that every credible complaint would be thoroughly investigated and addressed in line with the law.

The Lagos State Government further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical conduct within all its agencies, stating that integrity remains a cornerstone of effective governance and quality public service delivery.

The investigation is ongoing, and the government has pledged to keep the public informed of any significant developments as the process unfolds.
