The All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a resounding victory in the Edo State Local Government elections, securing all 18 chairmanship positions and all 192 councillorship seats across the state’s 18 local government areas.

The results, announced by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), confirm the APC’s complete dominance in the local government polls, making it the first party in the state’s recent electoral history to win every available elective position in a single local government election.

According to the electoral commission, the election was conducted across all local government areas and 192 political wards, with voting taking place in designated polling units throughout the state. Following the collation of results from the various wards and local government areas, the APC emerged victorious in every contest.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of EDSIEC, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, who said the commission carried out its constitutional responsibility by conducting the elections in line with the provisions of the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law. He stated that the declaration of the results followed the completion of voting, counting, and collation exercises.

The APC’s victory means that the party will now control the administration of all 18 local government councils in Edo State, with its elected chairmen expected to oversee grassroots governance and implement development programmes in their respective local government areas. Likewise, the 192 councillors-elect will be responsible for legislative functions at the local government level, including lawmaking, oversight, and representation of their wards.

Party leaders and supporters described the outcome as a reflection of the confidence reposed in the APC by the people of Edo State. They noted that the victory would strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and provide an opportunity to deliver on campaign promises aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic development across the state.

Celebrations reportedly erupted in several parts of the state following the announcement of the results, as party faithful gathered to congratulate the victorious candidates. Supporters expressed optimism that the incoming local government officials would justify the confidence placed in them by the electorate through transparent and people-oriented governance.

Political observers have described the outcome as a significant development in Edo State’s political landscape, noting that local government administrations play a critical role in bringing government closer to the people. They observed that the performance of the newly elected officials will be closely monitored, particularly in the areas of rural development, public service delivery, environmental sanitation, and community engagement.

The election also marks another important chapter in Edo State’s democratic journey, as residents exercised their civic responsibility by participating in the grassroots electoral process. Local government elections remain an essential component of Nigeria’s democratic system, providing communities with the opportunity to elect leaders who are directly responsible for addressing local needs and promoting development.

With the elections concluded and winners declared, attention is expected to shift toward the inauguration of the newly elected chairmen and councillors. Their tenure will present an opportunity to implement policies that promote inclusive governance, accelerate community development, and improve the quality of life for residents across Edo State.

The APC’s comprehensive victory in the Edo State Local Government elections is expected to further consolidate the party’s influence at the grassroots level while setting the stage for the next phase of governance and political engagement within the state.
