The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed heartfelt gratitude to God following the safe rescue of the pupils, teachers, and other victims who were abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, bringing an end to 56 harrowing days in captivity.

Describing the development as a victory for hope and perseverance, CAN said the successful operation has brought immense relief to the families of the victims, the people of Oyo State, and Nigerians who had continued to pray for their safe return.

In a statement issued by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the association commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to ensuring that the victims regained their freedom. He also praised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for working closely with relevant authorities throughout the period of the abduction.

The Christian body equally lauded the National Security Adviser, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), intelligence agencies, and other security operatives for their professionalism, dedication, and coordinated efforts that led to the successful rescue mission.

Archbishop Okoh described the operation as a demonstration of what can be achieved through effective collaboration among the nation’s security institutions, noting that the outcome has renewed public confidence in the country’s security efforts.

He said the rescue represents more than the return of the victims to their families, adding that it restores hope to communities affected by insecurity and highlights the importance of continued efforts to protect lives and property across the country.

While celebrating the successful operation, the CAN President called on the government and security agencies to strengthen measures aimed at preventing future attacks on schools and other vulnerable institutions.

He urged the authorities to improve intelligence gathering, increase security surveillance, and ensure that those responsible for acts of kidnapping and terrorism are brought to justice.

Archbishop Okoh also called for continued support for the rescued victims, stressing the importance of medical care, psychological counselling, and rehabilitation to help them recover from the trauma of their prolonged captivity.

The Christian Association of Nigeria assured the victims and their families of its prayers and support, expressing confidence that God would grant them complete healing and restoration.

CAN also pledged to continue supporting efforts that promote peace, national unity, and security, while encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful and work together for a safer and more secure nation.
