Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has directed former Local Government Chairmen whose tenures recently expired to hand over all government property in their possession to the Directors of Administration in their respective local government areas.
The governor directed that the handover and takeover formalities must be completed on or before the close of work on Monday, October 5, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu, the directive followed the expiration of the tenures of the Local Government Chairmen and Councillors across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The former officials were also informed that those interested in contesting the next local government elections are free to indicate their interest, provided they fulfil all requirements stipulated by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission.
Governor Uzodimma, on behalf of the Imo State Government and the people of the state, expressed appreciation to the former Chairmen and Councillors for their services.
Following the expiration of the tenures of Local Government Chairmen and Councillors across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, GSGI, Governor of Imo State, has approved that the erstwhile Chairmen hand over all government property under their care to the Directors of Administration in their respective local government areas.
All handover and takeover formalities are to be concluded on or before the close of work on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Meanwhile, His Excellency has given approval to former officials who are desirous of contesting the next local government elections to feel free to indicate their interest by fulfilling all requirements as demanded by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission.
His Excellency, on behalf of the government and the good people of Imo State, expresses his deep appreciation to all the former officials for their services to the state.
