Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has cautioned Governor Siminalayi Fubara against being deceived by what he described as superficial political support, stressing that popularity in politics is often temporary and driven by interests rather than genuine loyalty.
Amaechi made the remarks while commenting on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, noting that political actors should not mistake crowd support or public praise for true commitment or love.
According to him, many supporters rally around leaders not out of conviction but because of perceived political advantage, adding that such support can disappear once circumstances change.
While Amaechi did not openly align himself with either Governor Fubara or Minister Nyesom Wike, he emphasized that no political figure is bigger than the people and warned against arrogance fueled by temporary public approval.
The former governor also reiterated his call for adherence to constitutional order and democratic principles in resolving the Rivers political standoff, describing recent developments in the state as unhealthy for democracy.
Amaechi’s comments come amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, where divisions between key political actors have continued to shape governance, party loyalty, and public discourse.
