The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians in South Africa by successfully organizing the evacuation of citizens affected by recent xenophobic attacks.
Although the first evacuation flight has been rescheduled from Monday to Wednesday evening, the adjustment is intended to ensure that all necessary travel clearances and logistics are properly completed. The extension has also provided additional time for more Nigerians to register and undergo screening for the return trip.
More than 500 Nigerians have already been cleared for evacuation, with the first flight expected to transport approximately 270 passengers. The government has approved multiple evacuation flights to ensure that all interested citizens can return home safely and comfortably.
