Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to reject ethnic profiling and avoid associating crime with any particular tribe, religion, or ethnic group.
Speaking on the need for national unity, Obi emphasized that criminal acts are committed by individuals and should be treated as such. He noted that blaming entire communities for the actions of a few offenders promotes division, prejudice, and mistrust among citizens.
According to Obi, effective efforts to combat insecurity must be rooted in justice, fairness, and the rule of law, rather than ethnic stereotypes. He called on security agencies and the public to focus on identifying and prosecuting criminals based on evidence and individual responsibility.
The former Anambra State governor also encouraged Nigerians to embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stressing that the country’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division.
His remarks have been widely viewed as a call for national cohesion and a reminder that lasting peace can only be achieved when all citizens are treated with fairness and respect.
