The Federal Government has successfully concluded its evacuation exercise for stranded Nigerians in South Africa, as the fifth and final flight landed safely at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

The aircraft touched down at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, carrying 315 Nigerian returnees, marking the end of the coordinated airlift operation aimed at bringing affected citizens back home.

The evacuation exercise was carried out through a collaborative effort involving the Federal Government, Air Peace, and other relevant agencies. The operation reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of Nigerians facing difficulties abroad.

Officials at the airport received the returnees upon arrival and coordinated the necessary arrival procedures to ensure a smooth transition. The successful completion of the exercise highlights the importance of cooperation between government institutions and aviation partners during emergency operations.

For many of the returnees, the flight represents more than just a journey home—it marks the beginning of a fresh chapter after a period of uncertainty. Families and loved ones are expected to reunite with those who have finally returned after the evacuation mission.

With the arrival of the final batch of passengers, the evacuation exercise has officially come to a close, bringing relief to hundreds of Nigerians and their families while demonstrating the country’s continued efforts to protect the welfare of its citizens overseas.
