Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the end of the prolonged political rift between him and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declaring that the governor has “returned to us” as both leaders embrace reconciliation and renewed political cooperation.
The declaration marks a major turning point in Rivers State politics, following months of intense disagreements that created uncertainty within the state’s political structure and attracted nationwide attention. Wike’s remarks have raised hopes that the reconciliation could usher in a new era of stability and cooperation among political stakeholders.
Speaking before party loyalists and supporters, Wike said the differences that once divided the political family had been resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding. He said the time had come to put the past behind them and focus on the shared responsibility of delivering good governance and sustainable development to the people of Rivers State.
According to the former Rivers State governor, politics should never become a permanent source of division among leaders working toward a common goal. He said reconciliation, unity and loyalty remain the foundation of any successful political movement, adding that all members of the political family must work together in the interest of the state.
Wike also repeated his commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, declaring that the reconciled political structure in Rivers State would mobilise support for the President’s re-election in the 2027 general elections. He expressed confidence that a united front would strengthen the party’s electoral chances and contribute to national political stability.
“We have settled our differences. Governor Fubara has returned to us, and we are moving forward together. Our priority now is unity, peace and ensuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secures another mandate in 2027,” Wike said.
The reconciliation has been welcomed by many party members and political observers, who believe the renewed relationship between the two leaders could reduce political tension in Rivers State and create an environment that encourages cooperation, good governance and development.
Analysts say the renewed alliance may also strengthen the state’s political influence at the national level, especially as preparations gradually begin for the next general elections. They believe unity among key political actors could improve policy coordination and enhance the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
Supporters at the gathering applauded the reconciliation, describing it as a victory for peace, dialogue and political maturity.
