The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Orlu Local Government Area in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Magnus Okorie, has felicitated with the people of the area on the occasion of the annual New Yam Festival and Women August Meeting.
Okorie, in a release personally signed by him, described the two annual events as important cultural and social institutions with significant roles in promoting peace, unity, communal bonding and development in Igboland, particularly in Orlu Local Government Area.
He said the New Yam Festival remains an important expression of the people’s cultural heritage, providing an opportunity for families and communities to come together in thanksgiving, celebration and reconciliation.
According to him, the festival also promotes communal interaction and strengthens the bonds of unity among the people, while encouraging the preservation of Igbo cultural values for future generations.
The APC candidate similarly described the Women August Meeting as a significant platform through which women contribute to peace-building, family development and community advancement.
He commended the women of Orlu for using the annual gathering to deliberate on issues affecting their families and communities, promote peaceful coexistence and advance initiatives capable of improving the welfare of the people.
Okorie expressed gratitude to God for the return of peace and security in Orlu LGA, praying that the peace would be sustained and strengthened across the various communities.
He also commended traditional rulers across the local government area for their noble roles in preserving the people’s cultural heritage, maintaining peace and unity, and providing traditional administration anchored on truth, justice and fairness.
The lawmaker hopeful urged the traditional institutions to continue to deploy their influence and experience towards promoting reconciliation, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in the area.
Okorie charged the people of Orlu LGA to leverage the New Yam Festival and Women August Meeting to promote love, peace, unity and development across all communities in the local government.
He maintained that the progress of the area would depend largely on the ability of the people to work together and put their collective interests above individual differences.
Speaking on his ambition to represent Orlu LGA in the Imo State House of Assembly, Okorie said his aspiration was driven by his desire to serve the people effectively and attract the dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He stressed the need for greater synergy among the people of the area towards achieving a new system that would serve the collective interest, urging the people to support his ambition.
He concluded by extending his goodwill and prayers to the people of Orlu LGA, wishing them continued peace, unity, prosperity and development as they celebrate the two important annual events.
