Oguta LGA, Imo State – October 2025

In a remarkable step toward community development and infrastructure enhancement, Sterling Global Oil Resource Limited has commenced the progressive rehabilitation of the Ejemekwuru/Agwa Road in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

The project, described by residents as a “landmark achievement,” marks a renewed effort by the company to contribute positively to the host communities in which it operates. The long-neglected Ejemekwuru/Agwa Road, which has been a source of concern for years due to its dilapidated condition, is finally receiving attention — bringing relief to commuters, businesses, and residents alike.

Eyewitnesses and daily road users were seen expressing their gratitude, applauding the company for its sense of responsibility and proactive engagement. Many noted that the road, when completed, will significantly ease movement, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and improve access between communities, especially during the rainy season when the road becomes virtually impassable.

“This is the kind of corporate responsibility we hope to see more often,” said Mrs. Chinyere Duru, a local trader. “Sterling Global has shown they are not only here for business but also to uplift the communities around them. We are truly grateful.”

Similarly, Mr. Emeka Nwankwo, a commuter and youth leader in the area, remarked: “For years we’ve cried out for help on this road. Today, seeing machines and workers here gives us hope. We commend Sterling Global Oil for taking this bold initiative.”

The rehabilitation project is expected to span several weeks and will include grading, filling of potholes, drainage work, and general improvement of the road structure to make it motorable year-round.

Representatives of Sterling Global Oil Resource Limited stated that the road rehabilitation forms part of their broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at fostering development, ensuring safety, and building trust with host communities.

“Our commitment goes beyond oil exploration. We believe in giving back to the communities that host us,” said a spokesperson for the company. “This road project is just one of several steps we are taking to create lasting impact.”

Local authorities have also acknowledged the efforts of the company and expressed optimism that such partnerships between the private sector and communities will drive meaningful change across the region.

As work progresses on the Ejemekwuru/Agwa Road, expectations remain high that this project will pave the way — literally and figuratively — for more infrastructural development in Oguta LGA and beyond.
