Imo State Students Group’s under the aegis of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) in collaborations with Imo State Students Community and Imo State Comrades Community has expressed discomfort and non inclusion of any of their members amongst the newly Constituted Imo State Government Executive Council by the governor Senator Hope Uzodimma.
In a world press briefing in Owerri Imo State on Monday, 29 April 2024, NANS Public Relations Officer Imo State Chapter, Comrade Miss Achebe Chizzy said that the government recent appointment of council members to them was a surprise giving the avalanches of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s earlier Promises to the Students as the Leadership of Imo State Students under the aegis National Association of Nigeria Students NANS are sad, disappointed.
They pointed out that, there’s still time for the governor to make amendments and corrections on the anomaly by appointments of one or more of their members into the government Executive Committees even after the Inauguration Including Special Advisers To the Governor on Students Affairs slot and many other juice positions as they have capable and trustworthy members.
The briefing reads in part “WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE ISSUED TODAY , THE 29TH DAY OF APRIL, 2024 BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS, IMO AXIS, IN CONJUNCTION WITH IMO STATE STUDENTS COMMUNITY AND IMO COMRADES COMMUNITY”.
“We welcome the fourth Estate of the Realm, (Journalists) both those in the Electronics and Print Media, the Greatest Nigeria Students!, and Patriotic Imolites present, Good Day”,
“This press Conference is coming at the heels of the Imminent inauguration ceremony of the Commissioner Designates by the His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma, the best performing Governor of Imo State,”.
Recall that during the last Governorship election in Imo State held on the 11th day of November,2023, that saw the emergence of the 2nd term in Office of His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma”.
“The Students Community in IMO STATE which comprised of the National association of NIGERIAN STUDENTS, IMO AXIS, National association of Imo state students and Imo COMRADES COMMUNITY, openly pitched their tent in support of the Governor which in no small measures contributed immensely to the successful of the Governor’s victory at the polls. The Students Community embarked on a good number of Activities to wit’,
“Inter Campus awareness on good Governance, ,,”We the students, prior to the Election of 11th November,2024 embarked on Inter Campus awareness program on all the Campuses in IMO STATE . The students used the occasion to enlightened the general public and throw more lights on the giant Strides of the Governor”.
“The students tours round the 10 campuses in IMO STATE. During the said Campus Tour, the students community printed customized exercise books, Pen, Campaign Polos, flies, and Mosquito Nets to Students across the Campuses which was rounded up with the Governor’s Football competitions between the institutions in the State.
“To further show, Our unwavering commitment, support and solidarity, we the students organised STUDENTS’ PRAISES CONCERT in honour of His Excellency at the Ndubuisi Kanu Square”.
“To openly demonstrate and manifest our support for the re-emergence of the Governor, the students passed a vote of implicit confidence on the Governor”
The students body equally engaged in Endorsement Rallies across the entire State. The Students, with their meagre resources, printed various Bill Boards and Fliers. Loosely put, the Students Community IMO STATE was seems and worked as the Students Arm of APC all because of the love we have for the Governor”
“Given the above activities which no doubt created a dent in the purse of the Students Community, we are indeed saddened by the fact that Governor is yet to Appoint/ Select anybody from the Students Community in the List of Commissioner Nominees released so far”.
According to them the briefing is to pressed home their demand and request from the Governor to remember the Promises he made to them, the students who fought tooth and nail to ensure his second term re-election victory”.
“It is said that a Labourer deserves his wages and there is dignity in Labour. We humbly implore the Governor to see to it that the students are not marginalized “. They said.
The Students at the Press conference include, Vice President NANS Master Ahaneku Valentine Nzubechi, Comrade Emmanuel Anyanwu NANS JCC Secretary, Miss Josephine Anozie NAISS Director of Planning, Comrade Franklyn Metu, NAISS National President, Comrade Destiny Nwadike, NAISS National Secretary, Comrade Anderson Uwakwe, National Executive Officio 2 NANS, Comrade Okwaraji Chidera Vernitus Imo State University Student Union President.
Others are Obediah Anointing Chiemela, Nekede Polytechnic SUG President, Comrade Emmanuel Osuji, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, SUG President, Comrade Ifeanyi Chinedu Christian, Comrade Henry Chibuike and many others.
