The 2023 Imo State Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party, (LP) Chief Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, (Ikenga) has described the rumoured defection of former governor of the state, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, to the Labour Party, as a welcomed development.
Ukaegbu made this known during Telephone chat with journalists in Owerri who contacted him to know his position over the wide spread speculation.
The Ikeduru born administrator who expressed satisfaction over the development, said that the party remained the most credible alternative to Imolites now and in the future, adding that more political big wiggs would join the party after Ihedioha
According to him, politics is a game of number, noting that Ihedioha’s anticipated defection from the PDP to LP alongside his loyalists will further boast the numerical strength of the party in the state.
Describing the former governor as a seasoned and grassroot politician, Ukaegbu insisted that Ihedioha’s awaited defection would place the LP on winning ways in future elections in the state.
He therefore, urged other leaders and stakeholders of the party at national and state levels to receive him and his followers with warm embrace.
Recall that Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha alongside his PDP loyalists had last week, tendered their resignation letters respectively as members of the People’s Democratic party ( PDP) in Imo State.
Also recall that the former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, in less than one week after resigning from the PDP, has had a close door meeting with the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour party, a development that has rattled some self imposed and acclaimed leaders of the party in Imo State.
Ukaegbu who is hopeful of victory in the ongoing 2023 Imo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, called on Imolites to remain calm, prayerful and law-abiding.
