The Rebuild Imo Movement, the political structure of the former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has vowed not to distracted in it’s quest to promote good governance and true democracy in Imo State and Nigeria in general.
The movement made this known on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024, at a press briefing held at Ihedioha’s Campaign Office, New Owerri, Imo State.
The statement read by Sir Stanley Ekezie, enumerates some of the reasons that informed the decision of Ihedioha to resign his membership of the People’s Democratic party to include (a) the party’s failure to offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the last elections (b) Failure of the party to carry out internal reforms (c) Consistent drift from the ideals of the party and the party’s inability to enforce its own rules and constitution.
The statement described the unprecedented resignation of leaders, critical stakeholders and members of the party that greeted Ihedioha’s resignation from the PDP as an expression of total confidence in his leadership capacity, pointing out that his track record endeared him to Imolites across party lines.
According to the statement, following the development which has led to mass resignation of over 85 percent of members of the party in the state, Ihedioha and his teaming supporters have decided to float the Rebuild Imo Movement as a viable platform to entrench and promote good governance and democracy in Imo State.
The movement therefore, urged well meaning Imolites to join the struggle for true democracy in the state, promising to communicate Ndi Imo about any change in status quo in no distant time
Present at the press briefing were prof. Jude Njoku, prof. Obioma Ihediru, Bar. Kissinger Ikoku, Dr. Vin Udokwu, Hon Henry Epkeand and others
