On August 27, 2024, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State addressed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s Secretariat in Owerri, making pivotal announcements ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections. The governor declared that aspirants who have demonstrated loyalty to the party by purchasing nomination forms would be refunded. This gesture, he noted, is a recognition of their commitment and support for the APC.
Governor Uzodimma further revealed that the party would adopt a consensus and zoning strategy to determine candidates for the elections. This approach aims to ensure a fair and unified selection process that respects the party’s internal dynamics and promotes inclusivity. By opting for consensus and zoning, the governor intends to reduce potential conflicts within the party, fostering a sense of unity as they approach the elections.
Uzodimma’s decisions are seen as a strategic move to strengthen the APC’s cohesion and readiness, setting a collaborative tone for the party’s preparations in the upcoming local government polls.
