Ahead of 2027 general election, the Imo State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP), on Saturday, June 14, inaugurated a 675-member Directorate of Mobilization and Integration, DMI, with the charge for them to ensure the strengthening of the party in the state, and repositioning it for future elections.

Inaugurating the DMI members at the party’s secretariat, Okigwe Road, the Imo State LP Chairman, Barr. Calistus Ihejiakwa, urged them to prioritize the interest of the party at all times, and to shun actions that are capable of jeopardizing their assignment like showing favouritism and exclusion.

He clarified that the initiative was to sensitize and bring people at the grassroots into its fold, while integrating others who admirer the party, but are not fully registered members.

“This is a very historic moment as we carry out one of the programs we have for grassroots enrichment, rebuilding and strengthening of our party. Today, we’re inaugurating 675 LGA officers of Labour Party’s Directorate of Mobilization and Integration, DMI, representing our foot soldiers in the various LGAs.

“The aim of the DMI is to assist the party, liaise and work together with the leadership to make Labour Party thick and great in various LGAs. Also, recall that when Mr. Peter Obi came into Labour Party, so many people came in, but did not register as full members.

“And now that the elections are over, and we are rebuilding the party, DMI would now serve as a buffer ground for welcoming and integrating those people who are lovers of our party, but are not yet registered members,” Ihejiakwa said.

He acknowledged the crisis that rocked the party as common in political settings, but disclosed that members in demonstration of understanding and family spirit have resolved the challenge with the determination to work together for the success of the party.

Contributing, the Imo State LP Women Leader and the Chairman of the DMI Inauguration Planning Committee, Mrs. Princess Oleka Chinedu, remarked that the GMI members who she called “Labour Party Grassroots Evangelizers” have the task of making the party strong and progressive.

She urged them to undertake their assignments with diligence, being conscious of the ideals of the party as grassroots and people oriented political platform that prioritizes good governance, welfare of the masses and social inclusion irrespective of human categories, as she counseled the DMI members not to engage in actions inimical to the objective.

Reacting, some of the DMI coordinators appreciated their nominations and inauguration, promising to work diligently. The speakers included Sage D Uchenna (Mbaitoli Coordinator) and Comrade Kisslove Uriel (Isiala Mbano Coordinator).
