A cloud of grief has settled over the Nawfia axis of the Awka–Onitsha expressway after a tragic collision between a truck and a bus claimed six lives on Friday night.
The crash, which happened near the Enugu Agidi Junction, broke the silence of the night with the sound of metal crashing and cries for help. The bus was badly damaged, leaving a scene that witnesses described as terrifying and sorrowful.
Emergency workers arrived quickly, but for six passengers it was already too late. Their lives ended suddenly, leaving families in deep pain and shock. Survivors were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.
Residents of Nawfia and nearby communities remain deeply shaken. Many people say the accident is a painful reminder of the need for safer nighttime travel on the expressway.
