The Imo State Police Command has reassured residents of the state of sustained safety and security throughout the festive season and beyond, as part of renewed efforts to rid the state of criminal activities.

The assurance was given during a courtesy visit to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, Officer in Charge of Operations, Imo State Command, and Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, by Isiala Mbano-born legal practitioner, Barrister Chijioke Onwubuariri.

The meeting featured extensive and engaging discussions focused on strengthening operational strategies, intelligence-driven policing, and measures aimed at enhancing public trust and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Speaking during the interaction, ACP Odeyeyiwa, an experienced and widely exposed operational officer, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring that Imo State remains inhospitable to criminal elements. He stated that the Command would continue to intensify its security operations to give criminals “sleepless nights” until crime and criminality are reduced to the barest minimum across the state.

The ACP further disclosed that strict internal oversight mechanisms have been put in place within the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to ensure professionalism and accountability. According to him, officers are subjected to continuous monitoring, while regular inspections are conducted on detention facilities to ensure compliance with legal requirements, including adherence to approved cell capacities.

He explained that these measures are designed to prevent illegal detention and any form of extrajudicial practices. Reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, ACP Odeyeyiwa assured that any officer found violating the rules of engagement would be promptly disciplined through an orderly room trial.

The police Chief also called on residents to actively support security efforts by providing timely and credible information, stressing that effective policing is a shared responsibility. Describing the police as partners in community safety, he encouraged members of the public to report any form of misconduct by officers without fear of intimidation or victimization.

The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property, urging residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.
