Governors of Nigeria’s Southeast region have raised concerns that the continued enforcement of Monday sit-at-home orders could undermine their ambitious ₦5.7 trillion infrastructure-focused budgets, warning that prolonged disruptions may stall economic recovery and slow development efforts across the states.

The governors noted that while significant resources have been earmarked for critical projects such as roads, bridges, healthcare facilities, and education infrastructure, persistent restrictions on commercial activities every Monday are eroding productivity, reducing internally generated revenue, and discouraging private sector participation.

They stressed that infrastructure financing depends heavily on a stable and vibrant economic environment.
Despite sustained efforts by state governments to reassure residents and restore confidence in public safety, economic activities have yet to return fully to normal.

Businesses, transport operators, and informal sector workers continue to suffer losses, further compounding the fiscal pressures facing state administrations already grappling with inflation and rising project costs.

The governors called for collective action to address security concerns and restore normalcy, emphasizing that sustained peace and economic stability are essential for the successful execution of their development agendas.

They reiterated their commitment to engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure that economic growth and infrastructure development are not derailed in the Southeast.
