Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has announced the dissolution of the Anambra State Sports Commission, a move aimed at restructuring the management of sports development in the state. The decision was made as part of the governor’s initiative to streamline government agencies and ensure more efficient delivery of services.
The governor explained that the functions of the dissolved commission would be absorbed into a new framework designed to improve accountability, enhance funding allocation, and promote grassroots sports development. He said the move is not intended to reduce support for athletes but to strengthen the overall sports ecosystem in Anambra.
Officials indicated that the new structure will focus on nurturing talent at the local level, providing better facilities, and creating clear pathways for athletes to compete at national and international levels. Soludo added that partnerships with private organizations and sports federations will be central to the new approach.
Athletes and stakeholders in the state have been advised that programs currently under the Sports Commission will continue uninterrupted during the transition. The governor urged sports enthusiasts to cooperate with the government as it implements the reforms.
The decision has sparked discussions among sports enthusiasts and policymakers about the future of sports administration in Anambra, with many expressing optimism that the changes could lead to more efficient management and better opportunities for athletes.
