A significant step towards a peaceful electoral process in Ekiti State was taken as 13 political parties signed a peace accord ahead of the 2026 elections. The ceremony, witnessed by the INEC boss, Mr. Amupitan, and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Disu, among other security and government officials, underscores a collective commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and violence-free election.
The accord binds all participating parties to adhere to ethical campaign practices, respect the rule of law, and work with security agencies to maintain peace during the election period. Speaking at the event, Mr. Amupitan emphasized the importance of collaboration between political actors and security agencies to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
IGP Disu also reiterated the police’s readiness to provide security and maintain law and order, reassuring residents of Ekiti State that the authorities are committed to protecting both voters and candidates.
Party leaders, in turn, pledged to ensure that their members conduct themselves responsibly, highlighting the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in building a peaceful democratic environment.
