Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over the safety of former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, while calling on authorities to protect his rights and ensure that no action is taken against him that could threaten his security.
Atiku, a prominent opposition figure, urged political leaders and government institutions to uphold the principles of democracy by respecting the rights, freedoms, and safety of all Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The former vice president also demanded the release of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, stressing that every citizen deserves fair treatment and that the rule of law must remain the foundation of governance in the country.
According to Atiku, the strength of any democracy is measured by the ability of its institutions to protect citizens, encourage political participation, and resolve disagreements through lawful and peaceful means.
He warned that actions perceived as intimidation or suppression of political voices could weaken public confidence in democratic institutions and create unnecessary tension within the country.

He called on security agencies and relevant authorities to remain professional, impartial, and committed to protecting the rights of every Nigerian, regardless of status or political leaning.
The former vice president further emphasized that Nigeria’s democracy has been strengthened over the years through tolerance, dialogue, and respect for diverse opinions, urging leaders to avoid actions that could threaten national unity.
