The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide Zonal Special Intervention Patrol, introducing twelve intelligence-led operations across its Zonal Commands in a renewed push to reduce road traffic crashes and make Nigeria’s highways safer for all road users.

The nationwide operation is designed to tackle the leading causes of road accidents in different parts of the country through targeted enforcement, public awareness campaigns, stronger collaboration with stakeholders, improved rescue services, and increased patrol activities on major roads.

The initiative was announced in a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ohaeri, who said the operation was approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed. According to the statement, each Zonal Command has been directed to address the specific road safety challenges within its area using intelligence, operational experience, and data gathered from crash reports.

The FRSC said the intervention will focus on traffic offences that have continued to cause fatal crashes across the country. Through regular patrols and strict enforcement of traffic laws, the Corps hopes to reduce avoidable accidents and protect the lives of motorists, passengers, and pedestrians.

In addition to enforcement, the operation will feature continuous public education programmes, engagement with transport unions and community leaders, improved emergency rescue readiness, and stronger visibility of FRSC personnel on highways. The Corps believes these combined efforts will encourage safer driving habits and greater compliance with road traffic regulations.

The Corps Marshal said the intervention reflects the FRSC’s determination to use intelligence-based strategies and modern operational methods to improve safety on Nigerian roads. He urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid dangerous driving, refrain from overloading vehicles, and carry out routine maintenance before embarking on any journey.

The Corps also called on transport operators, private motorists, and other road users to support the campaign by complying with traffic laws and cooperating with officers during the special patrol. It noted that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of everyone.

With the nationwide operation now in motion, the FRSC hopes the coordinated patrol will reduce road crashes, improve emergency response, and create a safer road environment for millions of Nigerians travelling across the country.
