….Support grows for APP lawmaker as constituents cite quality representation
By Kelechi Ugo

As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, youths and supporters in the Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency have begun expressing their preferences on who should represent the constituency at the National Assembly.

A recent public endorsement by a constituent, Nokey Ebikam, has added to the growing campaign for the return of Hon. Attorney Dr. Matthew Nwogu, the incumbent representative of the Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, for a second term.

In a statement shared on social media, Ebikam described Nwogu’s representation as impressive, arguing that the lawmaker had performed well in his capacity as the representative of the constituency.

According to him, Nwogu has given the people of Abor Mbaise and Ngor Okpala what he described as “quality representation,” and therefore deserves another opportunity to serve.
“Hon Matthew Nwogu, who is representing the good people of Abor Mbaise/Ngor Okpala federal constituency has really done wonderfully well by giving them quality representation,” Ebikam stated.

He added: “In my own opinion, I think he deserves a second term. Let the people of his federal constituency support him massively for more dividends of democracy.”

Youth Support for Second Term:
The endorsement is reflected in a campaign graphic accompanying the social media post, which prominently displays Nwogu’s photograph and identifies him as the Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency Member.

The graphic calls for his “Second Term Re-election 2027”, while also attributing the endorsement to youths of Aboh Mbaise and Ngor Okpala.

The message signals the importance of youth participation in the political process as political parties and prospective candidates begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.

For many constituencies across the country, the question of whether an incumbent should be returned to office is often influenced by constituents’ assessment of representation, accessibility and the perceived ability of the lawmaker to advance their interests.

The latest endorsement suggests that Nwogu’s supporters believe his tenure should be extended to enable him continue with his legislative responsibilities.

The Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, like other federal constituencies in Imo State, is expected to witness increased political activities as the 2027 elections approach.

The endorsement of Nwogu by constituents therefore represents one of the early indications of the political conversations that could shape the contest.

While political endorsements are not substitutes for the ballot, they often serve as important indicators of grassroots sentiment, particularly when they come from groups or individuals seeking to mobilise support for a candidate.

The message from Ebikam was unequivocal in its call for constituents to rally behind the incumbent.

He urged the people of the federal constituency to support Nwogu “massively” for what he described as more dividends of democracy.

The campaign for a second term is built around the argument that an incumbent who enjoys the confidence of his constituents should be given the opportunity to consolidate on his representation.

Supporters of Nwogu are using the 2027 re-election message to project continuity, while portraying the lawmaker as someone whose representation has earned commendation from sections of the constituency.

His campaign graphic also carries the emblem of the Action Peoples Party (APP), under which Nwogu is being projected for the 2027 contest.

As the political season gradually takes shape, the task before all candidates and their supporters will be to convince voters through their programmes, records, policies and engagement with the people.
For Nwogu’s supporters, however, the message is already clear: they want the lawmaker to return to the National Assembly for another term.

Grassroots Politics Takes Centre Stage
The latest endorsement also underscores the increasing role of grassroots voices in determining the direction of electoral politics.

Rather than leaving the political conversation exclusively to party structures and established political actors, constituents are increasingly using social media and other platforms to publicly express their preferences.

Ebikam’s endorsement is an example of such grassroots advocacy, coming from a constituent who publicly declared his belief that Nwogu deserves another term.
With 2027 still ahead, more endorsements, counter-campaigns and political engagements are expected to emerge as aspirants and incumbents intensify their efforts to win the confidence of voters.

For the people of Aboh Mbaise and Ngor Okpala, the ultimate decision will eventually rest with the electorate at the polls.
For now, the second-term campaign for Hon. Attorney Dr. Matthew Nwogu has received a fresh boost from supporters who believe his representation should continue beyond his current tenure.
