The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of 17-year-old Chiamaka Chukwuokore, who allegedly fell from a two-storey building after being pushed by her aunt’s boyfriend in Owerri, Imo State.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, has reportedly been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations into the disturbing incident continue.
According to reports, the incident occurred under circumstances that are still being investigated by the police. Chiamaka reportedly sustained severe injuries after allegedly being pushed from the two-storey building.
Following the incident, the teenager was immediately rushed to a hospital, where medical personnel made efforts to save her life.
Sadly, despite the medical attention she received, Chiamaka reportedly died on the evening of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, leaving her family and loved ones devastated.
The heartbreaking development has brought renewed attention to the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of the young girl, whose life was cut short at just 17 years of age.
The police have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to establish exactly what happened and the events that led to the teenager sustaining the fatal injuries.
Reacting to the incident, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, expressed his heartfelt condolences to Chiamaka’s family over the painful loss.
The police commissioner also assured members of the public that the command would conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter.
He further maintained that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure that anyone found responsible for the teenager’s death is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of young people, particularly within family environments where they should ordinarily feel protected.
Many would agree that every child deserves to grow up in an environment free from violence, intimidation and abuse. No disagreement or domestic dispute should ever result in the loss of an innocent young life.
The tragic death of Chiamaka is a painful reminder of how vulnerable young people can be and why allegations of violence must always be treated with the seriousness they deserve.
