Barr Chizoba Iheka, a practicing lawyer and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Deputy National Legal Adviser, last week Wednesday and Thursday, the 4th and 5th of December, joined global business leaders, policymakers, and development partners at the just concluded Imo State Economic Summit 2025, held at the Concorde Boulevard, Owerri. The summit, themed “Unlocking Imo’s Economic Potential: Partnership, Investment and Innovation,” drew an impressive list of high-profile participants, including former United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, Africa’s foremost industrialist, former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General Senator John Azuta Mbata, His deputy Prince Okey Nwadinaobi, the Secretary General, H.E. Emeka Sibeudu, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Liberian President Joseph Boakai, leading international investors, and top government officials. The Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was fully represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

Speaking on the occasion, Barr Chizoba Iheka expressed delight over the strong presence of global innovators and investors, describing the summit as a transformative moment for Imo State’s economic future. He praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for organizing what he called “a historic gathering of global minds”, crediting the Governor for the vision and leadership that made the summit possible. According to him, Governor Uzodimma, in his magnanimity and political sagacity, has “broken records through projects that have redefined Imo’s development path,” citing the Orashi Electricity Initiative, the state’s growing gas infrastructure, and several other strategic investments.

The 3R mantra of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Recovery,by Gov.Uzodinma in Imo State today stands as a remarkable and has made Imo State admirable place for investment defined by rapid transformation, visionary leadership, and conscious governance reforms. At the center of this rebirth is Governor, Senator Dr. Hope Uzodimma, whose administration has reshaped the narrative of Imo through purposeful policies, people-centered programs, and an unwavering commitment to modernization. From economic diversification and gas development to infrastructural rebirth, human capital empowerment, and democratic restoration,no doubt that the Uzodimma leadership style has become a reference point for sustainable governance in Nigeria.

A NEW ECONOMIC DAWN: GAS DERIVATION, INDUSTRIALIZATION, AND REVENUE GROWTH
One of the most significant achievements under Governor Uzodimma is Imo State’s successful inclusion in Nigeria’s gas-derivation revenue, unlocking a fresh economic lifeline for the state and positioning Imo as a strategic energy hub. With vast natural gas deposits across the state, this breakthrough has opened doors for energy-based investments, industrial corridors, and long-term revenue stability. Coupled with improved internally generated revenue (IGR) reforms, transparent fiscal management, and the emergence of the Urashi Industrial Corridor, Imo is steadily evolving into a new economic powerhouse in the South-East. Factories, agro-processing projects, and energy-related developments are reviving rural economies while creating new opportunities for investors and local communities.

MASSIVE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE: REBUILDING THE BACKBONE OF THE STATE
Perhaps, the most visible marker of most Uzodimma’s leadership is the unprecedented transformation of Imo’s road infrastructure. His administration has delivered long-abandoned federal and state roads, reconstructed critical urban arteries, and opened new rural access routes that were neglected for decades. Landmark projects such as the Owerri-Orlu Road, Owerri-Okigwe Road, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia corridor, and strategic industrial roads like the Mgbidi-Oguta axis have restored economic mobility, eased inter-city travel, attracted logistics businesses, and improved security presence across communities. Today, Imo’s road revolution stands as one of the most comprehensive in the state’s history and a foundation for commerce, tourism, investment, and industrial growth.

HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT: SKILLS EMPOWERMENT AND JOB CREATION
Governor Uzodimma’s focus on human development is clearly illustrated through various empowerment initiatives tailored for youths, artisans, farmers, and women. The SkillUp Imo digital-skills program has trained tens of thousands of young people in ICT, software development, entrepreneurial management, and modern vocations with many already securing jobs locally and internationally. Additionally, agricultural revival schemes, MSME support grants, and small-scale industrial clusters have expanded job opportunities across the state. By empowering youths with 21st-century skills, the Uzodimma administration is tackling unemployment while nurturing a generation of innovative, globally competitive Imo youths.

IMPROVED WORKERS’ WELFARE: MINIMUM WAGE INCREMENT AND LABOUR-FRIENDLY POLICIES
As part of his governance philosophy anchored on fairness and productivity, Governor Uzodimma approved the implementation of an increased minimum wage for Imo workers, complemented by improved working conditions, prompt salary payments, and modernization of the state’s civil service system. The introduction of welfare reforms, pension structuring, and digital payroll systems not only boosted worker morale but restored trust in government operations. Through these initiatives, the Uzodimma administration has repositioned the civil service as an engine of development rather than a burden on governance.

STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACY: RESTORATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION
One of the boldest steps in the administration’s democratic reforms is the successful conduct of Local Government elections — restoring grassroots governance after many years. This reaffirmed Uzodimma’s commitment to democratic principles, decentralization of power, and inclusion of local communities in decision-making. Local Government administration under his leadership has been revitalized, enabling more direct delivery of development projects, community infrastructure, and rural empowerment programs.

A KEY GAME-CHANGER: THE IMO LIGHT PROJECT
Governor Uzodimma has also centered his administration on the Imo Light project, a revolutionary initiative that promises to bring 24/7 electricity to the state. As the Governor often says, “electricity is the center of development and industrialization.” The Imo Light project is set to transform the state’s economy, making it an attractive destination for investors and businesses. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Deputy National Legal Adviser Barr Iheka, has echoed this sentiment, calling on all Igbo sons and daughters here and in diaspora to come back and invest in Imo State, citing the mantra of the present Ohanaeze Ndigbo “Aku rue ulo” (wealth should return home) which is now made possible with the Gov.Uzodinmas projects. The Governor’s vision is to make Imo State a hub of industrial and economic activity, and the Imo Light project is a key component of this vision. Iheka emphasized that today Society needs a leader like Uzodinma who does not segregate but builds with love.

SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE: EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS
Across education and health sectors, Governor Uzodimma has implemented extensive reforms—upgrading school facilities, expanding tertiary education structures, revitalizing primary healthcare centers, and improving public hospitals with modern equipment and personnel support. Institutional reforms such as digital governance systems, anti-corruption frameworks, and transparent procurement processes have strengthened trust in government and restored administrative efficiency in Imo State.

A LEGACY OF RENEWAL, VISION, AND PEOPLE-CENTERED GOVERNANCE
Imo State under Governor Hope Uzodimma is experiencing a developmental renaissance rooted in vision, courage, accountability, and strategic planning. From the bold economic reforms to infrastructural renewal, human capital development, workers’ welfare, and democratic restoration, the administration has set Imo on an irreversible path of transformation. Today, Imo proudly stands as the new economic and industrial hub of Nigeria, a state ready for global investment, industrial expansion, and sustainable prosperity. Senator Dr. Hope Uzodimma’s leadership has not only rewritten the story of Imo State but has created a blueprint for progressive governance in Nigeria.
