The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control has issued a public health alert to Nigerians following the recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles over the presence of undeclared allergens that could pose serious health risks to consumers.
The agency reported that the affected product contains milk and egg allergens that were not declared on the product label. This could trigger severe allergic reactions, particularly in individuals with known sensitivities to these substances.
The recall followed a notification from Frances food safety authority, Rappel Conso, which identified the product during routine food safety checks. The affected noodles reportedly carry a best before date of February 6, 2026, and consumers have been advised not to consume the product if found.
NAFDAC explained that although the importation of noodles into Nigeria is officially prohibited, the possibility of the recalled product entering the country cannot be completely ruled out. Such products may enter local markets through unauthorized importation, online purchases, or personal luggage of international travelers.
The agency has directed its zonal and state offices to intensify market surveillance to ensure the recalled product is not available for sale in the country. Distributors, retailers, and consumers have been urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the product to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Consumers who already have the affected noodles are advised to dispose of them safely or return them to the point of purchase. Anyone experiencing adverse reactions after consuming similar products should seek immediate medical attention and report the incident.
NAFDAC stated its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that all food products available in Nigeria meet required safety and labeling standards.
