Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has broken his silence over the ongoing impeachment plot against him, declaring that he remains the duly elected governor of the state despite the rising political tension surrounding his administration.
Speaking amid growing speculation and intense political manoeuvring, Fubara dismissed reports suggesting that his position was under immediate threat. He stressed that there has been no constitutional or legal change to his status, stating clearly that he is still in office and fully committed to carrying out his responsibilities to the people of Rivers State.
The governor urged residents to remain calm and avoid being influenced by what he described as misleading narratives circulating on social media and other platforms. According to him, his priority remains governance, peace, and the delivery of democratic dividends, rather than engaging in political distractions.
His remarks come against the backdrop of renewed impeachment moves by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who have accused him and his deputy of alleged misconduct. The development has reignited political tension in the state, attracting reactions from political leaders, civil society groups, and concerned citizens within and outside the country.
Despite the mounting pressure, Fubara adopted a calm and confident tone, appealing for unity and stability across the state. He assured the people that government activities would continue without disruption and that his administration would stay focused on development, security, and the welfare of Rivers residents.
The impeachment plot is widely viewed as part of a broader political power struggle within the state. However, Governor Fubara maintains that constitutional order remains intact and that he continues to direct the affairs of Rivers State.
