The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it was prevented from using Eagle Square in Abuja for its activities.
Wike described the claims as baseless, insisting that the ADC never followed the required procedure to secure the venue. According to him, access to Eagle Square is not arbitrary but governed by a formal application and approval process handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. He emphasized that no such request was received from the party, making any allegation of denial misleading.
The minister further characterized the ADC’s statement as an attempt to attract public sympathy and create unnecessary political tension. He maintained that the administration remains committed to fairness and due process, adding that all organizations—regardless of political affiliation—are granted access to public facilities once they meet the stipulated requirements.
Eagle Square is one of Nigeria’s most prominent public venues, frequently used for national ceremonies, political gatherings, and large-scale events. As such, authorities enforce strict guidelines to ensure proper scheduling, security coordination, and maintenance of the facility.
Wike concluded by urging political actors to adhere to established procedures and avoid spreading claims that could misinform the public.
