Peoples Democratic Party Faction Backed by Nyesom Wike Denies Alliance With Allied Peoples Movement, Disowns Ibadan Political Gathering

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to former Rivers State governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting it entered into a political alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also distanced itself from a recent political gathering held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where opposition figures reportedly discussed coalition arrangements and possible electoral cooperation.

In a statement issued by leaders of the faction, the camp said it neither authorised nor participated in the Ibadan meeting, adding that any political agreement reached at the gathering does not represent the official position of the PDP.

The Wike-backed bloc described reports linking the party to a coalition deal with the APM as misleading and politically motivated. According to the faction, only recognised organs of the party possess the constitutional authority to approve alliances, mergers, or coalition arrangements on behalf of the PDP.

The statement added that the PDP remains an independent political platform capable of contesting future elections without external political attachments.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments and consultations among opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 elections, with several groups exploring coalition options aimed at challenging the ruling party.

However, the disagreement has again exposed internal divisions within the PDP, particularly over the party’s future direction, leadership structure, and possible coalition strategies.

Political observers say the conflicting positions emerging from different PDP camps may further complicate ongoing efforts to rebuild unity within the opposition party before the next electoral cycle.
