Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence in his chances of securing victory in the forthcoming governorship election, despite what he described as the overwhelming political strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeleke, while speaking ahead of the election, acknowledged the formidable structure of the APC but insisted that the strength of a political party at the national level does not necessarily determine the choice voters will make at the state level.
The governor said he was facing a powerful political machine with governors across several states, stressing that the contest was not going to be an easy one.
“I’m contesting against a party with 34 governors,” Adeleke said, highlighting the enormous political machinery backing his opponent.
Despite the challenge, Adeleke maintained an optimistic outlook, expressing confidence that his administration’s achievements and connection with the people of Osun would work in his favour at the polls.
The governor has continued to campaign on the record of his administration, pointing to projects and policies which he says have impacted the lives of residents across the state.
He also urged his supporters not to be intimidated by the size or influence of the opposition, insisting that elections are ultimately decided by voters at the grassroots.
According to Adeleke, the people of Osun understand the issues confronting the state and are capable of making an independent decision based on the performance of the government.
The governor’s statement has added fresh drama to an already competitive governorship race, with political parties intensifying their campaigns and mobilisation across the state.
The APC, on its part, is seeking to reclaim Osun after losing the governorship election to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022. The party has presented Bola Oyebamiji as its candidate for the 2026 election.
The battle is therefore expected to be closely watched, particularly because of Osun’s political importance and its history of competitive elections.
As the campaign enters its crucial stage, both camps are expected to intensify their grassroots mobilisation, with political leaders seeking to win over undecided voters and consolidate their support bases.
For Adeleke, the message remains one of confidence: the size of his opponent’s political structure, he believes, will not determine the outcome of the election.
With the election drawing closer, all eyes are now on the people of Osun State, whose votes will ultimately decide whether Adeleke retains the governorship or the APC makes a comeback.
The race is on, the stakes are high, and Osun is set for another major political showdown.
