Reports suggest that President Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign is employing a strategy reminiscent of former President Donald Trump’s approach by resorting to name-calling. In a recent email, Biden’s team refers to his opponent as “Broke Don,” alluding to Trump’s financial difficulties amid ongoing legal battles.
This tactic mirrors Trump’s style during both his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, where he famously bestowed nicknames like “Crooked Hillary” and “Crazy Joe” upon his rivals. The email accuses Trump of facing challenges in fundraising, lacking active campaign efforts, and allowing controversial figures to influence his bid for reelection.
Trump, in response, has frequently criticized Biden for purportedly evading media scrutiny and remaining secluded during the 2020 race, sentiments echoed within the email.
Despite this ongoing exchange, recent fundraising reports indicate that Biden’s campaign is outpacing Trump’s, giving Biden a significant financial advantage as they enter March.
Critics, including political strategist Ashley Hayek, question the effectiveness of Biden’s adoption of such a name-calling strategy, suggesting that it may backfire and draw attention to the actions of his administration.
Trump’s campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, derides the Biden campaign’s approach, emphasizing perceived shortcomings of Biden and asserting Trump’s superiority in such tactics.
