Police Dismantle Dangerous Kidnapping and Organ Harvesting Syndicate Along Douglas Road, Owerri
In a major security operation, the Imo State Police Command has successfully disrupted a notorious kidnapping and organ trafficking syndicate that had been terrorizing the Douglas Road area in Owerri. The criminal group, known for using the infamous “One-Chance” method to abduct unsuspecting victims, was brought down on October 10, 2024. One suspect, identified as 38-year-old Justine Emmanuel from Amimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area, was arrested, while a 19-year-old female victim, who narrowly escaped a gruesome fate, was rescued by police officers.
The operation unfolded after sharp-eyed police officers, on routine visibility patrol, observed suspicious activities surrounding a blue and white bus. The vigilant officers quickly intercepted the situation and discovered that the syndicate was in the process of forcibly abducting the young woman, intending to transport her to a remote location where they planned to murder her and illegally harvest her organs for sale in the black market.
Amidst the high-stakes pursuit, the terrified victim made a daring escape by leaping from the moving bus. Police operatives immediately intervened, securing her safety and initiating a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects. While some members of the syndicate managed to evade arrest by escaping into the surrounding bush, one suspect, Justine Emmanuel, was apprehended on the spot. The police have since launched an intensive manhunt for the remaining criminals and are conducting a thorough investigation to unearth the full extent of the syndicate’s operations.
This successful operation marks a significant victory in the fight against violent crime and human trafficking in Imo State. The Imo State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to rid the region of criminal elements, particularly those involved in the heinous crimes of kidnapping and organ harvesting. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station in order to prevent further tragedies.

In an unrelated incident, officers from the Owerri Urban Area Command have taken Mrs. Blessing Emmanuel, a secondary school teacher, into custody for the alleged abuse and inhumane treatment of her 12-year-old stepdaughter, Amarachi Emmanuel. The arrest followed a formal complaint made by Mr. Chidiebube Okeoma, a well-known activist and journalist based in Owerri. The complaint, which was filed at the Owerri Area Command headquarters, detailed disturbing accusations of physical and emotional abuse inflicted on the minor.
Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officials swiftly intervened, and during interrogation, Mrs. Emmanuel confessed to the allegations, further deepening concerns over the safety of the child. The authorities are now conducting a broader investigation to assess the full scope of the abuse and to ensure that justice is served. The Owerri Urban Area Command is steadfast in its commitment to protecting vulnerable children in the community and taking decisive action against those who violate their rights.

The police continue to urge citizens to speak out and report any instances of child abuse or neglect, ensuring timely intervention that could save lives and protect the well-being of innocent children.
Ensuring Public Safety and Community Awareness
Both of these cases underscore the unwavering dedication of the Imo State Police Command to preserving the safety and security of all residents. The Command remains committed to eradicating criminal activity and protecting the most vulnerable members of society, including children and women who are often targets of abuse and exploitation. Citizens are encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and to assist the police by reporting any suspicious activities in their communities.
Further developments and updates on these investigations will be shared with the public as they unfold.
