In a tragic turn of events, a Nigerian woman, whose identity remains unknown, succumbed to despair and took her own life, leaving behind three young children. Reportedly overwhelmed by depression brought on by the crushing burden of living expenses, she abandoned her children at the Enugu Police Station before tragically ending her own life by running into a moving vehicle.
Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the compassionate wife of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, has extended a lifeline to the grieving children. During an impromptu visit to the Ogui Police Station, she pledged to sponsor the children’s daily needs and education through her Custos Care Foundation. Moved by their plight, Mrs. Mbah has committed to supporting the children from nursery school all the way through university.
Upon learning of the children’s dire situation, Mrs. Mbah swiftly directed their relocation from the police station to a safe and nurturing environment, where the state government would provide for their care. It was revealed that the eldest child, unable to provide any details about their father or family, underscored the gravity of their predicament.
In light of this tragic incident, Mrs. Mbah emphasized the importance of seeking help and counseling for those grappling with depression and hardship. She urged the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, to intensify efforts in sensitizing and counseling individuals, especially those struggling with mental health issues, to prevent similar tragedies.
This heart-wrenching event sheds light on the harsh realities faced by many Nigerians amid economic challenges exacerbated by prevailing policies. The compassion and support extended by Mrs. Mbah serve as a beacon of hope amidst the darkness, reminding us of the importance of community and solidarity in times of adversity.
