Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State, has firmly stated that the political turmoil in Rivers State involving himself and the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has not diverted his attention from his ministerial responsibilities. He stressed that despite allegations suggesting he is distracted, his unwavering dedication to his duties as FCT minister is evident through the numerous projects set for commissioning.
Wike underscored that President Bola Tinubu will begin inaugurating these projects on May 27, in celebration of his one year in office. He pointed out that such substantial progress would not be possible if he were indeed preoccupied with the political issues in Rivers State.
The ongoing political situation in Rivers State has led to various accusations that Wike is not fully concentrating on his ministerial role. However, Wike has dismissed these claims, maintaining that his focus remains intact. He reiterated this during a site visit to several significant projects in Abuja on Friday, May 17.
In his remarks, Wike stated, “I am not distracted as FCT minister. If I were distracted, these projects in the FCT would not be visible.”
Additionally, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its firm stance on the vacation of seats by former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP, through a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that these former lawmakers ceased to be members of the House from December 11, 2023, when they publicly announced their defection to the APC. The party asserted that it remains under no pressure to alter its position in court regarding this matter.
