- All Progressive Congress party aspirant for Owerri west local government chairmanship election Hon. Barr. Clement Asoluka has promised to embark on a total reconstruction and renovation of buildings in the council secretariat if he is elected as the chairman.
Barr. Asoluka made this revelation while briefing journalist on Wednesday 3rd July 2024 in owerri.
He decried the level of decay of the buildings and structures in council secretariat stressing that his first agenda as local government chairman will focus on the upgrade of the system and facilities to ensure a conducive working environment for staffs.
” If you get to Owerri West Council Secretariat you will discover that it does not look like a local government Headquarters , the Chapel Building by the entrance of the Secretariat is in near state of collapse. The building has become a death trap to life and totally taken over by reptiles. Any serious minded person should have done something to ensure that the chapel building , which is like a monument does not collapse.
The abandoned one storey building block where the chairman office is supposed to be will receive immediate attention likewise every other buildings in the premises so that we will have enough office space for workers. These projects can be completed by direct labour at a minimal cost. The access road to the local government area will receive frequent stone base palliative measure pending when State Government will give it the required attention , this will enable all road users stop the use of village roads which is already in deplorable conditions.
Again ,the licensing office which is located outside the council environment will not be condone, it has to be relocated back to the headquarters because it is one of our core internal revenue . We shall device means or strategies to boost our internal generated revenue without depending on the federal government allocation to do our businesses, he said.
Furthermore, he pointed out that every progressive local government chairman must be in partnership with the state government and effectively collaborate as he pledges to run his administration in harmony with the state government.
