Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has ordered the immediate suspension of all operations of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission, ENTRACO, following a tragic incident linked to the agency’s activities in Owerri, the state capital.
The suspension, which takes effect immediately, was announced on Monday, November 10, 2025, through a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Oguwike Nwachuku.
According to the statement, the Governor’s decision followed a disturbing report of an incident involving ENTRACO officials that allegedly claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured. Governor Uzodimma described the development as unacceptable and said it was imperative to reassess the agency’s mode of operation to prevent further occurrences.
The Governor noted that this was not the first time ENTRACO’s operational methods had drawn public criticism. He said his administration remains committed to ensuring that all government agencies operate with professionalism, humanity, and respect for the rights of citizens.
However, he warned that the suspension of ENTRACO’s activities should not be seen as a relaxation of traffic, sanitation, or environmental laws. He cautioned members of the public to remain law-abiding, emphasizing that those who violate established regulations will still face strict penalties.
Governor Uzodimma also assured residents that the state government will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take appropriate action to ensure accountability and necessary reforms within the agency.
