Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Orji Uzor Kalu has defended his endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections. He described the criticism from Abia State Governor Alex Otti as unnecessary and politically motivated.
Kalu said his support for President Tinubu was a normal expression of party loyalty and a common practice in democratic politics. He explained that backing a sitting president from the same political party should not be seen as an attack on opponents or an attempt to create political tension.
Reacting to comments credited to Governor Otti Kalu accused the Labour Party governor of focusing on personal attacks instead of governance. He argued that such remarks distract from the duties of leadership and take attention away from the developmental challenges facing Abia State.
The former governor stated that politics should be based on ideas policies and service delivery rather than verbal confrontations. He added that his endorsement of Tinubu was driven by party unity continuity and confidence in the administrations efforts to address national issues.
Kalu also suggested that the response from the Abia State Government may be linked to concerns about the growing influence of the APC in the state ahead of the 2027 elections. He advised Governor Otti to focus on improving the welfare of residents addressing unemployment strengthening healthcare services and advancing infrastructure development.
He said he would continue mobilizing support for the APC at both state and national levels and expressed confidence that the party would perform well in the 2027 general elections including the presidential contest and other key races in Abia State.
Kalu concluded by calling for maturity in political engagement urging political leaders to embrace healthy competition respect and accountability in the interest of national development.
